The bronze Christ and crucifix above the main altar is a sculpture by artist Lillian Brulc and was installed in the 1970s when Fr. Leo Mahon was pastor.

The inspiration for the crucifix is the remembrance of life and death of Jesus. We recall Christ’s death, resurrection and ascension as a threefold act in one. We remember not only his death but its victory and promise of life. This is the theological concept expressed in our crucifix. The sense of glory in the figure and in the bright cross does not suggest we forget the suffering. The wounds are still evident. Christ’s face lifts to his Father, full of hope that all humanity will be lifted up with him. The tassels on the loin cloth symbolize the four corners of the earth, and his arms reach out to embrace the universe.

The figure weights about 250 pounds and is attached by stainless steel cables to a steel beam above the ceiling.
